Chris Evans has played many larger-than-life characters. But those characters have been based purely in the realm of fantasy. In "Puncture," Evans is trying something new: playing someone who existed in the real world. He'll play real-life lawyer Mike Weiss in the flick, and while his character is a "genius," as he describes him, he's also very flawed and very dark.

It was a welcome change for Evans, who recently suited up as the very not-real Captain America.

"Well, I liked the fact that it was a true story," Evans told MTV News. "That's crazy. I never approached a film or developed a character that existed. Usually I'm making something out of some paper, some words on a page; this was different."

Evans explained that the experience was even more fulfilling since he got to know the people in Mike's life. "There are people who know him, who knew him, who loved him," he said. "His family, friends, I got to go to Houston and sit with his parents, friends, coworkers, buddies and just get all these stories about this guy that was just an amazing human being.

"Everyone had the same things to say about him," he continued. "They said he was so brilliant, so like a genuine genius. One of those guys, it was too much; he was beyond this place. He was so amazing at what he did and as a result the byproduct of that type of genius usually comes in the form of sometimes being a little thoughtless towards people, a little arrogant, a little detached and as a result got really heavily into drugs that obviously didn't end well. But it was such a great layered character; there was so much meat on the bone."
