Clamp Awkward or Slippery Objects with a Bicycle Tube [Clever Uses]

Clamp Awkward or Slippery Objects with a Bicycle TubeOne of the most difficult facets of doing any repair work yourself is figuring out how to keep round or slippery objects in place after glueing them. Home Repair show host Ron Hazelton suggests using a bicycle tube as a simple, cheap clamp for holding awkward-shaped objects in place.

He demonstrates this on two pieces of wood, an antique stroller and a table leg, but it should be usable on nearly anything you need to glue together and keep in place. The flexibility of using a bicycle tube is like having a giant rubber band, so it will come in handy for a variety of tasks. Check out the video for a full guide on how to do it yourself.

Iran's Ahmadinejad denies US assassination claims (AP)

TEHRAN, Iran ? Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dismissed Sunday U.S. accusations that Iranian government agents plotted to kill the Saudi ambassador in the United States.

"Iran is a civilized nation and doesn't need to resort to assassination" Ahmadinejad was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying Sunday. "Terror belongs to you," he said, addressing the United States.

Two men, including a member of Iran's special foreign actions unit known as the Quds Force, have been charged in New York federal court with conspiring to kill the Saudi diplomat, Adel Al-Jubeir.

Iranian officials have consistently denied the allegations since they first emerged last week. Ahmadinejad's statements, and similar Saturday remarks by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, are the first comments made by the country's two highest leaders.

Khamenei, who has the final say on all state matters in Iran, had said that the U.S. seeks to bring greater pressure on Iran through making unsubstantiated allegations.

"They (Americans) conduct such conspiracies against us frequently, which are all useless and ineffective. They say that they want to isolate Iran but they have become isolated themselves," Khamenei said on state TV.

"By attributing an absurd and meaningless accusation to a few Iranians, they tried ... to show that Iran is a supporter of terrorism ... This conspiracy didn't work and won't work," he said.

In a formal statement released Saturday, the Iranian government said it has no connection to Manssor Arbabsiar, the man arrested in the alleged plot.

"Unilaterally announcing accusations without showing documentation and creating a media wave against Iran is in no way compatible with legal logic, and can only be a purely media and political show," it said.

President Barack Obama said Thursday that the U.S. will be able to support all of its allegations that Iran was directly involved in a plot to kill Al-Jubeir.

Arbabsiar is a 56-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen who also had an Iranian passport. In May 2011, the criminal complaint says, he approached someone he believed to be a member of the vicious Mexican narco-terror group, Los Zetas, for help with an attack on a Saudi embassy. The man he approached turned out to be an informant for U.S. drug agents, it says.

The U.S. charges that Arbabsiar had been told by his cousin Abdul Reza Shahlai, a high-ranking member of the Quds Force, to recruit a drug trafficker because drug gangs have a reputation for assassinations.

Iranian lawmakers and analysts have said Iran would not benefit from killing the Saudi ambassador in Washington, and thus has no reason to do so.

NVIDIA intros 3D Vision 2 glasses with brighter field of view, comfier design

NVIDIA's 3D Vision is impressive and all, but one trade-off you'll have to accept when you put on those active shutter glasses is a markedly dimmer field of view than what you'd get if you settled for plain-Jane 2D gaming. Well, the outfit just unveiled the second generation of the technology -- appropriately named 3D Vision 2 -- and this go 'round it promises not to strain your vision quite so much. These shutter glasses have a lens that's 20 percent larger, promising a brighter experience. As an added perk, the frames have been rejiggered to be lighter and more flexible so that you can comfortably wear headphones without pinching your lobes. As for the newest 3D Vision monitors and laptops, those panels promise reduced ghosting, as well as 120Hz 2D gaming. In tandem with today's announcement, NVIDIA announced that a trio of products -- the Toshiba Qosmio X770 / 775, Toshiba Satellite P770 / P775 and ASUS's 27-inch VG278H 1080p monitor -- will support now 3D Vision 2. If a new rig's not in the cards, the company also assures us that these glasses will be backward compatible with older 3D Vision panels. Look for them this month in the form of either standalone frames ($99) or as part of a $149 kit. All those details and more in the PR tucked after the break.

HTC announces the Sensation XL with Beats Audio, we go hands-on

We suspected there'd be a special guest at HTC's party in London tonight and here it is: the brand new Sensation XL. You might recognize the mug shot from the many leaks we've reported under the Runnymede codename, but this phone also bears a distinct similarity to the recently announced HTC Titan. It's carved from an almost identical 4.7-inch block of machined aluminum, has the same stunning 9.9mm (0.39-inch) thickness, same 800x480 Super LCD display and even the same eight megapixel rear camera unit. But there are key differences too: for a start, it packs HTC's vaunted Beats Audio system licensed from Dr. Dre. Oh, and did we mention this thing is an Android rather than Windows Phone? Those two things alone make the XL a different beast entirely, so read on for our impressions.

Well, what do we have here? This very well may be the first full on image and video of the device known as the Nexus Prime aka Galaxy Nexus. To go along with the spectacular image above, there was a video as well but it appears to of have been quickly taken down. However,  when it comes to specs -- we'll wait for everything to be fully revealed, since we've read enough rumors already. Instead, let's just enjoy the image above while we see if we can dig up the video from elsewhere.

*UPDATE* Video past the break.. Enjoy!

Court: Can gov't get involved in church dispute? (AP)

WASHINGTON ? The Supreme Count on Tuesday seemed deeply divided on how far the government can intrude inside the employment practices of churches and religious groups, a decision being closely watched by religious institutions concerned about their independence and by civil rights groups looking out for their employees.

The issue in the dispute between the Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School of Redford, Mich., and former teacher Cheryl Perich is whether a government agency has the right to sue the school on her behalf for firing her after she complained of discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Perich was promoted from a temporary lay teacher to a "called" teacher in 2000 at the Redford, Mich., school by a vote of the church's congregation and hired as a commissioned minister. She taught secular classes, as well as a religious class four days a week. She also occasionally led chapel service.

She got sick in 2004 but tried to return to work from disability leave despite being diagnosed with narcolepsy. The school said she couldn't return because they had hired a substitute for that year. They fired her after she showed up and threatened to sue to get her job back.

Perich complained to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which sued the church for violations under the disabilities act.

A federal judge threw out the lawsuit, saying that Perich fell under the ADA's ministerial exception, which keeps the government from interfering with church affairs. But the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated her lawsuit, saying Perich's "primary function was teaching secular subjects" so the exception didn't apply.

"There was no difference in what she was doing" at the school before she was commissioned and after, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said during the oral arguments. And when a church employee is performing a function that deals with the public such as education, argued lawyer Walter Dellinger, they "ought to be governed by the same rules" as other employers.

The church's lawyer, Douglas Laycock, argued that since Perich was a minister as well as a teacher, and those jobs overlapped, the government could not get involved in the church's hiring and firing decisions.

"If you teach the doctrines of the faith, you are a minister," Laycock said.

Courts normally give a lot of deference to a church's decision of who is a minister and who is not, Justice Samuel Alito said. If they don't, he said, the government then would have to get into the business of deciding who is an official minister of a church and who is not.

"You cannot get away from evaluating religious issues," something courts are not supposed to do, Alito said.

The court will issue a ruling in the spring.

The case is Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church & School v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 10-553.

92% Senna

All Critics (107) | Top Critics (31) | Fresh (98) | Rotten (9)

"Senna" makes a fascinating subject in a pretty entertaining film about a sport that isn't followed that closely by most Americans. But our very ignorance of that subject helps the film and adds to its impact. We don't know this story by heart.

A psychologically intriguing if at times too hagiographic portrait of a man who often held pole position in his profession and felt nearer to God because of it.

There's not an ounce of fat or a wasted shot throughout.

You don't have to know anything about car racing at all. Instead, you simply have to like a great story, one that has all the elements: drama, inspiration, competition, victory, defeat, betrayal and, looming above it all, tragedy.

It's stripped of narration, talking heads, and anything else that might threaten to slow it down.

Even if you can't tell Formula One from Grecian Formula, Senna is pretty exciting stuff.

It's impossible not to be impressed by how director Asif Kapadia and writer Manish Pandey have managed to craft a biographical film completely out of archive footage.

Uses an astonishing wealth of racing and interview footage - including film shot by in-car cameras during races - to chart in a compelling way the dramatic rise and heart-rending end of the Brazilian legend.

The film is a snapshot in time of an imperfect, interrupted life more than a gateway drug to racing enthusiasm.

There's no doubt Senna was a great driver, but this competently executed highlights reel doesn't tell us much beyond that.

...an entertaining, absorbing and inspiring documentary celebrating a champion's talent.

Ayrton Senna was a phenomenon, and as such, he was filmed, interviewed, and photographed repeatedly throughout his career, images now assembled as the documentary Senna.

Even those with no interest in Formula One - and I count myself amongst such people - will be captivated by this phenomenal motion picture.

"Senna" is simply the greatest sports film I have ever seen.

Kapadia fosters a distinct 'you are there' feeling for the races by composing his visual storytelling entirely of vintage footage, mostly derived from the Formula One archives.

Exhilarating in the extreme.

Undeniably gripping stuff.

I simply didn't care about it, and unless you already know who Senna is and are curious to know more, I doubt if you will, either.

It's hard to see how anyone wouldn't be absorbed by this fascinating film about a formidable driver and man.

"Senna" is carefully edited and makes sometimes spectacular use of extensive home movies and videos.

As sports documentaries go,...excellent, though in a fairly conventional way.

RealTime Fantasy Sports - Ryan, Jets' D looking to fix things in a hurry

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - Rex Ryan can't stand the hideous number next to his team's defense on the list of NFL rankings.

There it is in black and white, screaming at him unlike anything he's ever seen: The New York Jets are 31st in the league - second-to-last - in run defense. That's unheard of from a Ryan-led unit, whether it has been Rex, twin brother Rob or even their famous father, Buddy.

``Most other coordinators in the league have been there,'' Ryan said Thursday. ``I have not. That definitely bothers me.''

Ryan's life has been all about defense: blitzes, sacks and smashing running backs. And, he is used to dominating opponents. Ryan helped build the Baltimore Ravens' defense into one of the league's best, and he has done the same in his two-plus seasons in New York.

That's why this early season stretch has been so perplexing. The Jets are ranked 11th in overall defense, but it's the performance against the run that is somewhat alarming. Oakland's Darren McFadden zipped through New York's defense with ease, finishing with a career-high 171 yards last Sunday in the Raiders' 34-24 victory.

``I can live with this one,'' Ryan said, ``but it doesn't feel good.''

Ryan was angry after the game, and rightfully so. It wasn't up to his lofty standards, and his coaching staff and players agreed. Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, Ryan's right-hand man, said he was ``disgusted, frustrated'' by the performance.

``That was well below our standards,'' Pettine said. ``Sometimes you can handle some technique mistakes. Sometimes guys just are going against somebody that's better and coming up short. But when it's a mental error or whether it's a guy just being lackadaisical or it's an effort thing, those are the things that we consider unacceptable.''

Linebacker Bart Scott offered a unique take, saying he thought the defense in general was ``lethargic.'' He said the fact the team was playing on the West Coast with the change in time zones, and confusion over when the best time to eat meals played a role.

``I think collectively as a group, it was just one of those weird days,'' Scott said. ``Generally, when you play and it's a 1 o'clock game, you pop up, you eat, you use the fuel for that game. Sometimes when you play at 4 o'clock, it's a little bit more difficult because you eat too early, you aren't hungry to eat the carb load and do what you need to do to get ready for a game. Sometimes that's the weirdness of night games and that's the weirdness of afternoon games.''

While that explanation might be tough to swallow, the Jets are trying to do all they can to fix things in a hurry, especially with Baltimore and New England up next. Whether it's lack of effort, lousy lunches or time changes, New York insists it needs to learn from their disastrous performance against the Raiders and move on.

``As Rex said in the team meeting, we're not going to let Oakland beat us twice and let the lingering effects of a poor performance defensively or a tough loss like that linger into the next week,'' Pettine said. ``Because this is the NFL, you better be able to hit the reset button in a hurry.''

Many of the players said they were embarrassed by what happened last Sunday, and vowed to be better. Ryan proclaimed before the season - as he usually does - that this defense could be the best on the league. They've got a long way to go, though, based on the first three games.

``Yeah, man, this thing stings like a Clorox bath,'' nose tackle Sione Pouha said. ``The one thing with Clorox, though, it's supposed to purify your mistakes and clean you up a little bit, so we're out of that stage and we're moving on.''

One big problem against the Raiders was the fact the Jets failed to secure the edges against McFadden, allowing him to hit the outside and run freely. There have been other issues early, too, such as not getting adequate or consistent pressure on the quarterback and mental mistakes that have resulted in penalties.

``There were some plays where guys weren't going to the ball like our trademark is,'' Pettine said. ``We tell our guys, `Just because you have the decal on, there's nothing magical about it.' ... To waste a game defensively like that and not play to our standards is obviously disappointing.''

Both Ryan and Pettine said the team had a good week of practice leading up to the game, so that made it even more puzzling. Despite all that, Scott brushed off the Jets' low ranking against the run, especially since it's still so early in the season.

``Anybody that thinks we're the 31st-ranked defense stopping the run, and they think there are 30 teams better at stopping the run, I would call you a little bit foolish,'' he said. ``The week before we played them, we were fifth. Which are we, fifth or 31st? It's up to us to prove which one we are.''

The next big test comes Sunday at Baltimore against a Ravens team that ranks 11th in overall offense with quarterback Joe Flacco and running back Ray Rice, who's among the league leaders with 231 yards rushing.

``There was no better wakeup call than to look at the schedule and say, `It's Baltimore week,''' said Pettine, a former Ravens assistant. ``If you can't get pumped up for that one, if you can't get your juices flowing for this week - Bart always calls these `double chin-strap games' - we tell our guys, if you can't get ready for this one, then you're sitting in the wrong room.''

The Many Advantages of Writing Product Reviews | Welcome to si ...

Consumers of all kinds have used the internet for shopping and reading product reviews because they save time. If you write any kind of review from second or third hand information you will be placing your self at a distinct disadvantage. Personally, if there is no reasonable way to obtain firsthand experience, then we simply do not review it and find something else to promote. The most effective product reviews will contain other critical factors each of which will make a difference in your outcome.

Understand that a product review is not a sales pitch; you can?t fill in all the hype and drama into your product review and expect it to work. A comprehensive review that shows the reader you have thorough knowledge of the product or service and can talk about it will have a good chance of making a solid impression. The review has to educate them about the ins and outs of the product, focusing on both the positives and as well as negatives so that your prospect gets a clear picture of it. Those are just several basic yet powerful aspects of reviews you should always have. You will need to write your copy in an appropriate manner for your target audience, as well. Your words should be light and to the point, just avoid using any jargon when you?re writing the review. Yes, you want to be accepted by them, but what is also important is the quality of your review. The writing part may require some additional work if you are not a good writer, and in that case be doubly sure your review is excellent.

Be clear when you?re describing the product to your readers and make sure the information you give out is accurate in its own way. When you make everything the best it can be, then that is when people will start trusting you more. There are roughly half a dozen to maybe close to ten overall parts that can be included in a review to make it very strong. How much information you supply is up to you, and the length does not matter if it is filled with solid content. There are lots of ways to make money with affiliate products, and the product review is one that can be extremely effective. It is a fact that a high percentage of people will base their buying decisions on reviews. There is a direct correlation between the amount of quality effort you put into your reviews and what you get in return.
