Coordinator for Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction - Instructor or ...

Responsibilities
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise tutors and supplemental instructors for the University Learning Center, Writing Center, and Supplemental Instruction Program. Provide comprehensive developmental academic advising to a caseload of Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, and academically at-risk students; also provide comprehensive learning support strategies to students seeking individualized services with the learning support specialist. Collaborate with the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities to facilitate appropriate accommodations for the learning disabled. Collaborate with the Director of the Learning Center to develop and implement programming for academically reinstated and probationary students. Develop or facilitate and implement academic enhancement programs and workshops for diverse learners; teach learning strategies, critical reading, first-year seminar, and liberal studies capstone course; and guide a capstone experience. Assist in creating and maintaining a robust system of learning outcomes assessment supporting continuous improvement of all activities associated with the Learning Center. Assist in building partnerships across college campus to support innovation in learning support programs, services, and initiatives. Teaching load not to exceed 25% of duties. Strong evidence of excellence in advising, continuing scholarly growth, and University service are required for promotion and tenure.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements: Master's Degree in Special Education, Education with a Reading Specialist Certification, Learning Assistance, Developmental Education, or related field from a regionally accredited institution. Requirements include the completion of a successful campus interview which will include a teaching demonstration. Additional qualifications: Three years full-time experience providing academic support in a higher education environment; experience working with tutors and SI leaders; demonstration of teaching and academic advising effectiveness; working knowledge of IDEA, ADA, Section 504 Regulations; practical knowledge of assessment of services and programs; ability to adapt to changing technologies that support teaching and learning; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); the ability to teach, evaluate, and advise students; evidence of relevant scholarly activity; ability to work collaboratively with others; demonstration, through past accomplishments and behaviors, of the ability to support Mansfield University's principles and values of Character, Scholarship, Culture, Service (http://www1.mansfield.edu/mansfield-creed) and the University's strong student-centered vision and mission; and demonstration through past accomplishment, of the ability to motivate and mentor students Preferred: Doctoral degree and academic advising experience in secondary and/or higher education. Other conditions of employment are verification of all earned degrees through the receipt of original transcripts and an acceptable background check report.

Essential Functions
Effective academic advising and teaching. Continued scholarly growth and service to the university, department, and community. Communicate and write effectively. Use electronic technologies and software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail; and effective use of phone, keyboard, and other typical office equipment. Interpersonal relationship skills. May be required to lift, stand, walk, reach with arms, etc. Some travel required.

Status
