Make Money Online ? Internet Marketing Business Website ...

Hello everyone, I?m Johnny Frey, and I have been involved with making money online for about seven months now. When I first started doing this, I went through many stages of learning. I have purchased many products about internet marketing and making money online. This article is to show people how to get past a lot of the confusion that I have encountered, therefore saving you time and money.

One thing that I have encountered right away was the process of learning ?mindset.? Now for me, mindset does not mean that I?m going after money and nothing else, because I hope that you know that it doesn?t work that way. I have learned to have fun on the computer, as I truly enjoy being on the computer. So for me, instead of playing video games, I do this. Some people bowl. I particularly enjoy talking with people on forums and social networking sites, such as Facebook, etc. There are a lot of very interesting people on forums and networking sites, and it?s a lot of fun becoming reacquainted with friends that I haven?t seen for a long time.

Now when it comes to making money online, I know that if I were a potential customer, I would buy a product from a friend that I know before I would even consider buying a product from someone that I don?t know. Now I am just a regular person just like you, and I believe that anyone can learn to make money online if they can learn to just be themselves, without the hype or some kind of selling technique that is learned.

To your fun and happy internet endeavors!

Johnny Frey has been involved in making money online for about seven months now, and is a member of The Chris Farrell Membership Site since October of 2009.

Working At Home With Websites And Blogs | The Backlinks People

Starting a web based business is a venture that loads of folks are curious about. And especially as of late, when there are countless folks who are losing jobs. Starting an internet site or a blog is not complicated, but the all round commitment is immense, given that once the site is finished there is a lot of website marketing as well as routine maintenance involved. But, once the website is established correctly, many Internet marketers make a passive income that is routine and steady.

Setting up an online business starts with registering a domain name, that will cost around $10. The subject or niche of the web site is entirely for you to decide. Usually the preferred niches are the ones that you have knowledge about plus an interest in, which makes it a lot easier to create content articles about, and build the web site in general. One of many crucial facets of effective internet marketing is being an authority within your specific niche market and even though a few webmasters work with applications like the best spinner others believe that creating original detailed articles is a better course of action.

Online marketing and online business generally, carries a tremendous advantage versus a physical small business that inevitably requires a whole lot of dollars in start up costs. With an internet business, you just need to buy one of the fantastic no code website software programs, obtain a domain and obtain site hosting, entire costs are under $100. You are able to work at your own personal schedule, in your own home, in a robe, and while it is hard work, the income received can be unlimited. Website marketing is a 100% pure home based business that will not demand a business location or staff members. No going to work, no traffic, and most important no employer to answer to, you just need a personal computer and also Internet.

Work At Home Suggestions

Knowing how to do Keyword Analysis is extremely important to earning money on online and constructing websites that bring in targeted visitors and thus turn them into buyers.

There are various free internet blogs and forums as well as educational resources to understand the ideal solutions to create a web based business.

Create a business plan and stick with it. Ensure that you map out your internet marketing tasks, keep with a daily timetable of work to keep organized.

Cut out interruptions in your own home.

You must take action. Don?t simply let the plans which you designed stay as to do lists. Many individuals invest months studying and trying to learn, but do not ever take action. You have to apply what you learned and then learn as you go, with Internet marketing, practical experience can be the most beneficial teacher.

Enroll in widely used internet marketing forums and study everything as well as ask lots of questions. Some of the best discussion boards relevant to online business are Webmaster World and Digital Point.

Don?t? be afraid of failure, many marketers have built their online business by learning from mistakes. This is crucial for this this kind of venture, the more you practice and keep at it, the more you understand and the more success you can ain with your online ventures.

Poll: Young people see online slurs as just joking

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Is it ever OK to tweet that a girl's a "slut"? How about slinging offensive names for homosexuals in a post to a friend on Facebook? Or texting a racial slur? Most young people think it's all right when friends are joking around with each other, according to a new poll.

Jaded by the Internet free-for-all, teens and 20-somethings shrug off offensive words and name-calling that would probably appall their parents, teachers and future bosses. And an Associated Press-MTV poll shows they don't worry much about whether the things they tap into their cellphones and laptops could reach a wider audience and get them into trouble.

Seventy-one percent say people are more likely to use slurs online or in text messages than in person, and only about half say they are likely to ask someone using such language online to stop.

"On Twitter, everybody's getting hit hard. Nobody really cares about nobody's feelings," said Kervin Browner II, 20, a junior at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. "You never know how bad it hurts people because they don't say anything."

But young people who use racist or sexist language are probably offending more people than they realize, even in their own age range. The poll of 14- to 24-year-olds shows a significant minority are upset by some pejoratives, especially when they identify with the group being targeted.

"It's so derogatory to women and demeaning, it just makes you feel gross," Lori Pletka, 22, says about "slut" and more vulgar words aimed at women. The Southeast Missouri State University senior said other terms regularly offend her online, too ? slurs for black people, Hispanics, and gays or lesbians.

Fifty-five percent of those surveyed say they see people being mean to others on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. And 51 percent encounter discriminatory words or images on those sites.

But they mostly write off the slurs as jokes or attempts to act cool. Fifty-seven percent say "trying to be funny" is a big reason people use discriminatory language online. About half that many say a big reason is that people "really hold hateful feelings about the group."

That may be why even the most inflammatory racist slur in the AP-MTV poll ? the "N-word" ? didn't rouse a majority of young people. Only 44 percent said they'd be very or extremely offended if they saw someone using it online or in a text message. Thirty-five percent said it wouldn't bother them much, including fully 26 percent who wouldn't be offended at all.

Among African-American youth, however, 60 percent said they would be offended by seeing the N-word used against other people.

Four in 10 young people overall said they encounter that word being used against other people, with half of those seeing it often.

Other derogatory expressions are more common and accepted. Majorities see "slut" and "fag" used against others, and only about a third consider them seriously offensive.

But 41 percent of women deem "slut" deeply offensive (jumping to 65 percent if it's used against them specifically), compared with only 28 percent of men. And 39 percent of those who are gay or know someone who is gay are seriously offended by the use of "fag," compared with 23 percent of all others.

Demeaning something with "that's so gay" is so common that two-thirds of young people see it used, and the majority aren't offended at all, despite a public service ad campaign that tried to stamp out the anti-gay slang.

A similar effort to persuade kids not to use "retard" hasn't hit home with half of those surveyed, who don't find the word even moderately bothersome. Twenty-seven percent are seriously offended, however.

Some teens just text the way they talk. Calling each other "gay" and "retarded" is routine in high school, says Robert Leader, 17, a senior in Voorhees, N.J. So teens text it, too.

But constantly seeing ugly words on their electronic screens may have a coarsening effect. "It's caused people to loosen their boundaries on what's not acceptable," Leader said.

What group gets picked on the most? Those who are overweight.

And slurs against the overweight are more likely to be considered intentionally hurtful than slights against others; 47 percent say these comments are meant to sting.

Muslims and gays also are seen as targets of mean-spiritedness.

In contrast, only a third say discriminatory words about blacks are most often intended as hurtful, while two-thirds think they are mostly jokes. And 75 percent think slurs against women are generally meant to be funny.

It's OK to use discriminatory language within their own circle of friends, 54 percent of young people say, because "I know we don't mean it." But if the question is put in a wider context, they lean the other way, saying 51-46 that such language is always wrong.

Yet four out of 10 young people have given little or no thought to the ease with which their electronic messages could be passed to people they didn't expect to see them; less than a quarter have thought about it a lot.

Two-thirds haven't considered that what they type could get them in trouble with their parents or their school. But it happens.

A 13-year-old Concord, N.H., girl was suspended from school for posting on Facebook that she wished Osama bin Laden had killed her math teacher. The University of Texas Longhorns dismissed a sophomore football player for his racial slam against Barack Obama on Facebook after the 2008 presidential election. And a Harvard law student's email to friends, suggesting that blacks might be intellectually inferior, was forwarded across the Internet, prompting the law school dean to publicly denounce it.

"People have that false sense of security that they can say whatever they want online," said Pletka of Cape Girardeau, Mo. "Anything that you put into print can be used."

The AP-MTV poll was conducted Aug. 18-31 and involved online interviews with 1,355 people ages 14-24 nationwide. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

The poll is part of an MTV campaign, "A Thin Line," aiming to stop the spread of digital abuse.

The survey was conducted by Knowledge Networks, which used traditional telephone and mail sampling methods to randomly recruit respondents. People selected who had no Internet access were given it for free.

Danger signal limits hepatitis C infection

ScienceDaily (Sep. 19, 2011) ? Despite the fact that hepatitis C virus (HCV) persists chronically in about 80 percent of those infected, some liver cells remain free of the virus even after many years. Now Sung Key Jang of Pohang University of Science and Technology, South Korea, et al. explain that paradox. During chronic HCV infection, a cellular protein, HMGB1, helps restrain viral reproduction. That prevents HCV from sweeping the liver, and results in a lower blood burden of virus than in the case of hepatitis B. This first description of HMGB1-related responses triggered by HCV infection is published in the September 2011 issue of the Journal of Virology.

The researchers show further that HCV-infected cells secrete HMGB1 proteins into the extracellular milieu. There, these proteins trigger a receptor on the cytoplasmic membrane, called TLR4, causing both an interferon response, which fights the virus, and an inflammatory response.

Two different responses coming from the same receptor at the same time is a common phenomenon. But that can make designing drugs all the more complicated. Boosting the interferon response could vanquish the virus, but the inflammatory response would be harmful. However, Jang says that it might be possible to get the one response without the other. If HMGB1 in the TLR4 receptor is like a hand that fits nicely in a glove, thus triggering both responses, perhaps a drug could be fashioned which could fit a piece of the receptor, like two fingers in a glove, thus triggering only the interferon response. This is an unpublished hypothesis, says Jang, but one that his group is working on.

In the paper, the researchers note that HMGB1 is a "danger" signal. The Danger model of immunology, derived by Polly Matzinger of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, NIH, posits that immune responses are initiated by signals from damaged cells. Rather than distinguishing between "self" and "nonself," as per conventional wisdom, the Danger model suggests that when cells are stressed, injured, or killed (by external forces rather than through so-called programmed cell death), they give off alarm signals that activate the immune system to clear the damaging agents

About 18 million people worldwide are infected with HCV. That virus causes inflammation (hepatitis), massive death of liver cells (cirrhosis), and hepatocellular carcinoma. Liver cancer, primarily hepatocellular carcinoma, which is also caused by heptatitis B virus, is the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, and the ninth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, according to Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Life Skills Coaching & Tools For Transformation | Sharp Articles

Life Skills Coaching is designed to meet your individual needs, establish your specific goals and apply the tools tailored for your personal healing. The following transformational tools for Life Skills Coaching will provide you with the methods, techniques, and psychology you?ll need to actualize your like skills objectives:

Self Transcendence: The ego is not your true, eternal Self, but rather is a construct based on whatever you identify with during your time here on Earth. The more you try to convince yourself that the ego is the true sense of who you are, the more you will suffer because of it. Therefore, transcending human suffering requires transcending the ego. Self Transcendence Life Skills Coaching can help you to create a space of awareness between your true Self and the ego.

Shadow Work: Do you blame others or life in general for your own emotional sufferings, your own problems? In truth, when you blame someone or something for anything, no matter how little or how large, this blame will always be rooted in repressed issues that have nothing to do with ?him? or ?her? or ?them? or ?it,? but everything to do with your hidden shadow. Projecting on to others what we secretly despise in ourselves is what the shadow is all about. Shadow Work Life Skills Coaching can provide you with the tools you?ll need to become aware your hidden shadow, helping you to heal your trauma and become Self Realized.

Pain-Body Work: The more you repress this negative self, the darker and denser it becomes. Left unresolved, these darker shadow emotions inevitably manifest themselves?beyond our control?as addiction, abuse, obsession, hatred, rage, and violence. Spiritual teacher, Eckhart Tolle, believes in a psychic parasite that he calls the ?pain-body.? Many pain-body hosts repeatedly stir up debate, drama, and conflict in their daily lives. The emotional reaction that they receive as a result of the drama is pure energy for the pain-body to ?feed on.? A Pain-Body Work Life Skills Coach can provide you with the tools you?ll need to heal your pain-body and live a life of peace, balance, and tranquility.

Heart-Brain Circuitry: Neurocardiologist, Dr. J. Andrew Armour introduced the ?heart brain? concept in 1991. His work revealed that the heart has the ability to act independently of the cranial brain, i.e. to learn, remember, feel, even sense. The emotional body of the current human species is not located in the heart. It is in the right brain. Because the brain is polarized, mind-based creativity is possible but comes with a caveat: You will also get what you don?t want. Heart-Brain Life Skills Coaching can teach you how to get out of your head and into your heart. By accessing your Heart-Brain, you will be tapping into the true power of intention.

Life Path Astrology & Numerology: If you?re not passionate about what you do, you?ll never be successful at it. As Joseph Campbell said, ?Follow your bliss.? Most people are unhappy with what they?re doing and this alone can have a detrimental effect on their well-being. It can also be frustrating when you feel that you were meant to be following a very different path from where you currently are in life, but you just can?t seem to articulate what that particular path is. A Life Path Astrology or Numerology Life Skills Coach can determine your most compatible vocation and true life?s purpose by analyzing and interpreting the data from your time, date, and place of birth.

Law of Attraction: Everything in this universe has its own frequency or energy vibration, if we rebel against the present moment armed with anger, frustration, or defiance, then we will inevitably be strengthening what we don?t want. Conversely, if we accept it with unconditional love, then we change the frequency of our response. In this way, our frequency does not empower what we don?t want. This subtle exchange of energy is known as the Law of Attraction. Law of Attraction Life Skills Coaching can help you to put this natural law on your side.

Power of Presence: Think of someone you love unconditionally, no matter what they say or do. Now, I ask you, if you can love this person unconditionally?why not life itself? Why not everything that life brings to you? Learning how to love life unconditionally puts the Power of Presence on your side. When we are fully aligned with the Power of Presence, we become awakened to our limitless, transcendent, indistinct and formless Self. A Power of Presence Life Skills Coach can provide you with all the tools you?ll need to live every moment in the eternal Now.

U.S. ambassador urges China to lower trade barriers (Reuters)

BEIJING (Reuters) ? China must reduce barriers to foreign companies if it is to meet its own development goals, the U.S. ambassador said in Beijing on Tuesday in a speech that reflected foreign investors' growing frustration with the pace of economic reforms in the country.

Gary Locke, who took up his new post in August, targeted restrictions on China's financial services sector and on investments by foreigners, calling on Beijing to end "expansive government interference."

"These policies are ultimately counter-productive, preventing China from receiving the capital, technology, management expertise and jobs that would come with a more open investment environment," Locke said.

"The growth model China has relied on for the last 30 years -- one predicated on low-cost exports to the rest of the world and investment in resource-intensive heavy manufacturing -- cannot serve it well in the next 30 years," he said.

The speech, given before members of the American Chamber of Commerce in China and the U.S.-China Business Council, was Locke's second public address in China as ambassador.

Locke, formerly U.S. commerce secretary, had previously vowed to press for greater access for U.S. goods and services in China.

He took the place of Jon Huntsman, who stepped down as ambassador to join the U.S. presidential race.

Chinese leaders have said they will roll back "indigenous innovation" policies that Locke and other U.S. leaders had argued shut foreign companies out of industries or required technology transfers as a condition of operating in China.

But foreign companies, many of which depend on China for a growing share of their profits, say they still face discriminatory practices and regulations, particularly at the local level, where Beijing's policies aren't always closely enforced.

Locke's remarks expanded on an earlier September speech, when he struck a cooperative tone on U.S.-China relations before Chinese university students, but called for reduced trade and investment barriers.

On Tuesday, he said advocating for better intellectual property protection would be one of his top priorities.

"Despite some progress, American and other foreign companies in industries ranging from pharmaceuticals to biotechnology to advanced manufacturing to entertainment still lose billions of dollars every year from IP theft in China," Locke said.

The United States' trade deficit with China, which hit a record $273 billion in 2010 and could top that this year, is a major irritant in relations between the world's two largest economies.

U.S. leaders argue that China's undervalued currency contributes to the problem, since it gives Chinese companies an unfair price advantage in international markets.

China's Foreign Ministry last week urged U.S. lawmakers on not to resort to trade protectionism after U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid pushed for legislation aimed at forcing China to loosen controls on its currency.

Beijing has also criticized what it says are barriers to investments by its own companies in the United States.

Locke urged Chinese companies to invest more in the U.S., where high unemployment rates continue to vex politicians.

"The United States is doing everything it can to make our investment and commercial environment as open and appealing as possible," Locke said. "Unlocking the full potential of the U.S.-China relationship requires China to take similar steps."

Caregiver: Forest boy 'like a normal teenager'

An English-speaking teenager who claims he spent the past five years living in a German forest with his dad seems "like a normal teenager," his caregiver told a British newspaper on Tuesday.

"I'm all alone in the world, I don't know who I am. Please help me," the teen reportedly told workers at the Berlin City Hall when he walked in off the street early this month.

Police say their initial investigation into his story has gone nowhere, despite visits by investigators, psychologists and linguists.

The case has created a sensation in Europe, with papers dubbing the teen, who calls himself Ray, the "forest boy."

Story: English-speaking teen appears in German capital, says he lived in woods for last 5 years

The teen has spoken little to authorities other than to say that he had lived in the German forest with this father, before his dad died in a fall and was buried last month. He says he remembers nothing of his early life.

Ray remains in state care in Berlin and has quickly adjusted to city life, one of his caregivers told Telegraph newspaper.

Berte Kohn, the manager of the Jugendnotdienst shelter for troubled youth, told the Telegraph. Ray remained quiet and spoke little with the German teens because of the language barrier.

"But there were no problems with him and he seemed happy to be inside, to sleep in a comfortable bed and take regular showers," Kohn said. "He mixed with the others like a normal teenager but spoke little."

Ray showed up in Berlin on Sept. 5 carrying a backpack and sleeping bag, police spokeswoman Miriam Tauchmann told msnbc.com. He said he was 17 and told officials he and his dad were living in tents and huts until his father died recently.

?He has no identity card, no papers, no passport, nothing," Tauchmann told msnbc.com. "He looked very good ? not like a wild man or anything like that. Physically and mentally, everything is OK with him.?

Tauchmann said the boy claimed that he and his father took to the woods after his mother died about five years ago. The boy recalled his mother's name as Doreen and his father's as Ryan, but could not remember anything else about his family history.

Turkey to freeze EU ties if Cyprus gets EU presidency

EU-candidate Turkey will freeze relations with the European Union if Cyprus is given the EU presidency in 2012, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay was quoted as saying by the state-run news agency Anatolian late on Saturday.

    6. Jobless man follows in steps of Dust Bowl migrants
    7. History or histrionics in U.N.?s Palestine vote?

The comments could signal a new low point in ties between the European Union and Turkey which began accession talks to the bloc in 2005.

They also come at a time of heightened tension in the eastern Mediterranean where Turkey is locked in a row with Cyprus over potential offshore gas deposits and Turkey's relations with one-time ally Israel are frayed.

In what looked set to trigger a showdown between Turkey and EU-member Cyprus, Cypriot President Demetris Christofias said on Sunday Cyprus would start drilling for hydrocarbons "within the next few days.

"If the peace negotiations there (Cyprus) are not conclusive, and the EU gives its rotating presidency to southern Cyprus, the real crisis will be between Turkey and the EU," Anatolian quoted Atalay as telling Turkish Cypriot Bayrak Radio and TV at the end of a trip to northern Cyprus.

"Because we will then freeze our relations with the EU. We have made this announcement, as a government we have made this decision. Our relations with the EU will come to a sudden halt."

An official at the European Commission declined to comment on Atalay's statement.

The internationally-recognised Greek Cypriot government is due to take on the six-month rotating EU presidency in July 2012. Turkey does not recognize Greek Cyprus as a sovereign state.

Cyprus has been divided since a Turkish invasion in 1974 triggered by a brief Greek-inspired coup. U.N.-sponsored peace talks between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots have stumbled since they were relaunched in 2008. The United Nations has set an October deadline for a peace settlement but it is unlikely an agreement will be reached by then.

While Muslim Turkey started EU accession talks in 2005, progress has been slow, largely because of the conflict with Cyprus. The EU says Ankara must meet a pledge to open up traffic from the Greek Cypriot part of the island under a deal known as the Ankara protocol. Turkey says the EU should end its blockade of the Turkish Cypriot enclave.

"PROVOCATION"

Adding to tensions is an escalating row between Turkey and Cyprus over Greek Cypriot plans to launch gas explorations around the island and Christofias' announcement on Sunday is likely to draw a firm reaction from Turkey.

Turkey has already voiced strong opposition to the plans and on Saturday Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said they amounted to "provocation" and it would consider carrying out its own offshore surveys with northern Cyprus if drilling went ahead.

Earlier this month, Turkey's European Union Minister Egemen Bagis issued a veiled threat to Cyprus over the issue.

Asked about exploratory drilling for natural gas by Greek Cypriots, Bagis told Turkish media: "It is for this (reason) that countries have warships. It is for this (reason) that we have equipment and we train our navies."

Friction in the eastern Mediterranean is already high after a sharp decline in ties between Turkey and Israel following the 2010 killing of Turkish activists in an Israeli raid on a ship bound for Gaza.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday Turkish warships could be sent to the eastern Mediterranean at any time and Israel could not do whatever it wants there.

Cyprus has said it would block Turkey's EU-entry talks if Ankara continued to oppose its energy plans. The United Nations has appealed for a peaceful resolution to the dispute, saying both sides of the island should benefit from any reserves.

The European Union this month told Turkey not to issue threats against Cyprus.

Greek Cypriots represent Cyprus internationally and in the European Union, while Turkey is the only country to recognize the Turkish Cypriot state.

"COMMITTED TO EU ACCESSION"

While Cyprus remains a stumbling block to Turkey's entry into the EU, some EU members have voiced opposition to its accession over several other factors ranging from Turkey's cultural differences to fears of an influx into the EU of Turkish migrant workers.

Turkey has introduced many significant reforms over the past decade and has witnessed booming growth rates but the country is still one of Europe's poorest in terms of per capita income.

On Sunday, Turkey's Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said Turkey was still committed to entering the EU but that this was not solely based on economic gains the country would make.

"There are people, there are certain circles who are beginning to question the EU accession story," Simsek said in an interview with Britain's Sky News.

"But my government is committed to EU accession not because of economic benefits that it might offer in the future it's more about Turkey's political, economic transformation."

The rotating presidency has lost some influence since the EU Lisbon treaty, but a determined country can still shape the agenda.

Of the 35 "chapters" -- policy areas of EU law -- Turkey has completed one, and 18 have been frozen because of opposition by EU member states including Cyprus and France.

Le Toux helps Union snap skid, 1-0 over Crew

updated 9:46 p.m. ET Sept. 17, 2011

CHESTER, Pa. - Sebastien Le Toux scored his team-leading seventh goal in the 32nd minute and the Philadelphia Union snapped an eight-match winless streak with a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew on Saturday night.

The Union ended an 0-3-5 stretch that dated to a 3-0 victory July 17 at New England.

A standing room-only sellout of 18,906 at PPL Park saw Philadelphia improve to 6-1-8 at home with its first victory in four tries against Columbus.

The Union (9-7-12) moved into third place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind the Crew and one point behind Sporting Kansas City, which played later at Real Salt Lake.

Columbus is 0-3-1 in its last four matches and fell to 3-8-3 on the road.

Union rookie goalkeeper Zac MacMath picked up his second consecutive shutout in place of MLS All-Star Faryd Mondragon, who has a broken finger.

Patrick says concerns about Japan understandable (AP)

MOTEGI, Japan ? Danica Patrick doesn't understand why a fuss is being made over her expressing concerns about racing this weekend near a nuclear reactor crippled by the earthquake and tsunami in March.

Patrick will take part in Indy Japan at the Twin Ring Motegi, which is 93 miles from the Fukushima-Dai-ichi nuclear plant, which leaked radiation after being severely damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. She said she was worried about the radiation levels in the food and water and the possibilities of aftershocks.

Patrick posted her only victory in the IndyCar series in Japan in 2008.

"Having concerns about coming here is completely understandable," Patrick said Friday. "Now that I'm here, I've eaten the food, I go out running in the morning so I'm doing the things I normally do here and it seems like everything is fine."

The quake damaged the 1 1/2-mile oval at Twin Ring, so Sunday's race will be held instead on the recently repaved 14-turn road course.

Just after Patrick and the rest of the drivers arrived on Thursday, the Motegi circuit was jolted by a strong 6.2 earthquake off Japan's northeastern coast that shook buildings at Motegi.

Patrick said she's not the only one who has reservations about making the trip.

"I know a lot of people are concerned, a lot of us looked at each other and said, 'Are you going to eat here? Did you eat sushi?' We've all asked those questions but it seems fine."

Patrick sidestepped reports that other drivers, in particular Tony Kanaan, had criticized her for speaking out about traveling to Japan.

"I didn't really see that," Patrick said. "I kind of heard something about it but don't know what was said."

Sunday's race will be the last IndyCar series event in Japan. Mobilityland Corp., a wholly owned unit of Honda Motor Co., announced in February that due to the economic downturn, the 2011 race will be its last IndyCar race at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit.

After the earthquake, IndyCar series officials did consider canceling the race but decided to go ahead after Honda officials moved the race to Motegi's road course while assuring IndyCar that travel to Japan was safe.

Despite all the commotion over her comments, Patrick said she will miss racing in Japan.

"I will always have so many great memories of Motegi," Patrick said. "The people, the track, although we are on the road coarse this time, the food, the culture. You can tell the fans are really looking forward to this and are glad we are here."

Sunday's race will play a crucial role in deciding this year's championship.

Team Penske's Will Power won the Baltimore Grand Prix on Sept. 4 for his second straight victory and sixth of the season to move within five points of series leader Dario Franchitti with three races left.

Mourners console each other after a memorial service on Sept. 25, 2001, at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo., for the 8 University of Wyoming track team members who died Sept. 16th on their way back from Ft. Collins, Colo. An estimated 3,500 people attended the service. A candle for each of the 8 members was lit by other UW athletes, followed by a moment of silence and speeches by then Gov. Jim Geringer, UW athletics director Lee Moon, and then UW president Philip Dubois. Track and field coach Don Yentes and cross country coach Jim Sanchez also spoke. (AP) ? The people of Wyoming were still coming to grips with the unthinkable events of Sept. 11, 2001, when another tragedy hit and rattled the state to the core.

Five days after the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were attacked, eight members of the University of Wyoming cross country team were killed when their SUV was hit by a truck driven by a fellow student, who was driving drunk.

"You're going through thinking about are we going to war, what's going to happen and then five days later my world changed," said Kerry Shatto, whose son died in the crash. He recalled talking to his son about the Sept. 11 attacks and how Shane and others on the team were planning to donate blood.

Ten years later, the legacy of the crash that killed more than half of the 15-member squad lingers at Wyoming.

"9/11 was horrible," Sara Axelson, vice president of student affairs, said Thursday. "It's something that faces our country and our world for that matter, but to lose eight students is something that no university can take lightly. It was one of the saddest points in our history. ... In the university community, it was devastating and it continues to be."

The deaths have been honored through scholarships, campus memorials and other tributes ? but nothing has been more significant than a drinking awareness program expanded in the aftermath of the tragedy.

"We've got a significant program in place that we're proud of and that has made great strides. And we're not going to let up," Axelson said. "It's something we got to make sure we keep ever-present in our programming and in our work with students."

In 2002, the university started a coalition with the Laramie community that addresses alcohol issues. And since 2007, every new UW student must participate in an online alcohol education program before being allowed to register for classes. Students also are put through workshops, training sessions and orientation programs that plainly detail the risks of alcohol abuse.

"It's in their face," UW Police Chief Troy Lane said.

Also, the city of Laramie enacted a new ordinance last year with stiffer penalties for drivers with a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 or higher. A person is considered legally drunk at 0.08.

Liz Waesche, a Wyoming senior from Seattle who is studying to become a substance abuse counselor, said she believes the university's efforts are helping.

"I think that people are actually paying attention," said Waesche, who works with freshman in an alcohol awareness program.

Axelson said the efforts have shown results. Binge drinking has declined from about 48 percent of UW students surveyed in 2007 to about 36 percent in 2009, she said. Also, yearly surveys show more UW students are abstaining from alcohol altogether and using designated drivers.

And Wyoming has joined about 35 other colleges around the country to address high-risk drinking on campuses.

About 1,825 college students die every year from alcohol-related unintentional injuries, and 696,000 students are assaulted by another student who has been drinking, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, part of National Institutes of Health.

Still, the college alcohol culture is pervasive and can pose a contradiction on many campuses, including UW.

Before Wyoming's football team defeated Texas State on Sept. 10, players and fans joined the nation in observing the 10th anniversary of 9/11 terror attacks. But at War Memorial Stadium the moment of silence also honored the eight cross country athletes killed Sept. 16, 2001.

Then during the game the Cowboys band played "In Heaven There Is No Beer" ? an ode to drinking that includes the line, "In heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here."

Students heartily sung along.

"I've tried to sort through that over the years," Axelson said. "And I don't know if students really focus on it ? that it's about beer or it's just a lively song that resonates."

She said the song may be reviewed to see if it is appropriate.

Lane, the police chief, said he doubts the college alcohol culture is going to change, "But if we can do anything to make them more aware of it or if they think twice about getting in a car and driving after they've had a few drinks, then I guess that's effective."

It's a message Clint Haskins had not received. Friday will mark 10 years since Haskins decided to drive to see his girlfriend after a night of drinking at a party and a bar. At around the same time, eight members of the UW cross country team piled in a sport-utility vehicle and headed back to campus after spending much of the day across the state line in Colorado.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. about 15 miles south of Laramie, killing Morgan McLeland, Nicholas Schabron, Justin Lambert-Belanger, Cody Brown, Kyle Johnson, Joshua Jones, Kevin Salverson, and Shane Shatto were killed.

Haskins was the only survivor.

He has been incarcerated since pleading guilty to eight counts aggravated vehicular homicide and is scheduled to be released by Feb. 1, 2012.

"So it'll be just a little less than 10 years from when he went in," Kerry Shatto said. "You can take eight lives in Wyoming and it's not a very stiff penalty. Doesn't send that much of a message at all."

UW doesn't have any plans for a formal ceremony on Friday, the anniversary of the eight killed. Axelson said UW wanted to recognize the anniversary during the football game when thousands of people could attend.

Kerry Shatto said he planned to mark the anniversary at his son's grave site by releasing eight balloons with an attached note reading, "We miss you."

It's a ceremony he holds every year.

"Every day is an anniversary that I don't have Shane," he said.
